Nutrition and Public Health student, Alice Kininmonth, was recently nominated by her colleagues for the ‘Excellent Employee Award’. Alice has undertaken a placement as a Health and Wellbeing Project Officer from August 2014 to August 2015 at Wakefield Council’s Public Health Department.
Alice who was nominated for the award by her senior managers and colleagues during her placement year said, “I am honoured to be nominated for the ‘Excellent Employee Award’. Truthfully, the reason I worked so hard on placement was because I loved the work I was doing and wanted to make the most of every available opportunity. Yes, it has sometimes been challenging but it has also been unforgettable and a joy to come to work every day.”
The nomination was part of the annual “Wakefield Council Pride Awards” to acknowledge outstanding achievements by staff. The award recognises excellent service from a staff member, someone who does their job to the best of their ability and puts the customer first.
Alice commented: “I have met some amazing people and built great friendships. I believe choosing to do a placement was one of the best decisions I have made. I have learnt a great deal and been able to see how the knowledge I’ve learnt at university can be applied in practice. This placement has helped me develop academically and personally and the experience I have gained will no doubt be invaluable to me in the future.”
Alice gained a breadth of experience at Wakefield Council with varied responsibilities including conducting literature reviews and researching into best practice, reviewing policies and practices, evaluating weight management services and delivering training sessions to employees and promoting health and wellbeing in the community.
Rose Dunlop, Speciality Registrar in Public Health at Wakefield Council commented: “Alice has been a true asset to the Council. I would hope that on reflecting on the success of her work in Wakefield Alice's self-belief will grow. Alice has a great career ahead of her and will find success in whatever avenue she chooses to pursue.”
Alice contributed to a number of other projects including the development of a cookery and gardening book that Wakefield Council is producing as part of the launch of a new healthy lifestyles project.
Rachel Wilcox, Health and Wellbeing Manager at Wakefield Council commented: “This nomination is because she has shown a commitment to the team that is both outstanding and inspirational. She is a highly intelligent and motivated member of our team.”
