Updated University Computer Regulations

The new Regulations will be rolled out week-commencing 6 October

In July 2014, University Teaching and Learning Committee approved an updated version of the Regulations Governing the use of Computing Facilities.  These are designed to ensure that use of the University’s IT facilities remains safe, lawful, and equitable.

We have taken the opportunity in the latest version to follow best practice across the sector, and to take into account the many technological changes since the last major update, which happened almost eight years ago.  For example, we now have to take into account the advent of cloud computing and the widespread use of social media.

The new Regulations are simpler and easier to understand, and much of the detail has been moved to a set of Guidance Notes.  We hope in the years ahead that this will make it easier to keep the Regulations in line with legal and technological changes.

As there are significant changes in the new Regulations, it will be necessary for you to accept the Regulations during login, and we will begin this process during the week commencing Monday 6 October.

If you have problems with the process of accepting the Regulations, IT Support (ext 3737) will be able to help you.

If you have any questions about the Regulations or the Guidance Notes themselves, please contact me directly.
