Transgender and Political Science in Europe Workshop

Professor Monro, Associate Director of Centre for Research in the Social Sciences (CRISS), conducted a workshop on Transgender and Political Science in Europe as Co-Investigator, alongside Principle Investigator Joz Motmans, University of Antwerp (Belgium), and Co-Investigator Janneke van der Ros, University College of Lillehammer (Norway).
This workshop, which took place in Brussels in September 2014, brought together key established and emerging European scholars working in the trans field, in order to develop chapters which will be published in an edited collection. It addressed citizenship and recognition, welfare regimes and social movements. This lively, well-attended workshop raised important questions concerning the direction and scope of political science in relation to gender diversity, including the gender binaried nature of much current theorising, and in so doing advanced the discipline more broadly.
