As many will be aware, and have seen, the poem by Lemn Sissay, MBE, Let There Be Peace is now installed on the side of the Creative Arts Building. To officially launch the poem, the University is honoured that Mr Sissay will be visiting the University this Friday (3rd). All staff and students are invited to attend the launch, which will take place at 11.20am on the Plaza, in front of the poem. The unveiling will last approximately 15 minutes with a welcome speech by the Vice-Chancellor before Mr Sissay will address the audience and recite the poem.
Lemn Sissay is one of the UK’s most celebrated poets and he has received many accolades and awards. In 2010, he was awarded the MBE for services to literature, he is the associate artist at the Southbank Centre and he was the first of five poets commissioned for last year’s London Olympics. He has written plays for stage and BBC radio and he writes regularly for The Guardian newspaper. He is also the author of five collections of poetry.
The poet has become a regular visitor to the University and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Letters in 2009.
