New Academics in Pharmacy

Along with new staff in the Departments of Chemical Sciences and Biological Science there are a number of new appointments in the Department of Pharmacy. The include sideways promotions for Dr Kofi Assare-Addo (pictured) and Dr Patrick McHugh who have moved from roles as research fellows, and new arrival Katie Greenwood (pictured).

Born in Accra and now living in Huddersfield, Kofi is one of the newest member of the academic staff in the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Huddersfield. Kofi obtained his undergraduate degree in Pharmaceutical Science at the School of Science, University of Greenwich in 2008. Upon completion, he joined the Medway School of Pharmacy, University of Kent in October 2008 on an Industrial CASE PhD studentship, working under the supervision of Dr Ali Nokhodchi. His PhD was a research collaboration between Colorcon Limited and the Medway School of Pharmacy, University of Kent. His research work specifically focused on the development of an in-vitro testing method to investigate drug release from hypromellose matrix tablets under fed and fasted conditions. Upon completion of his PhD, he joined the University of Huddersfield firstly as a Research Assistant in May 2012, then as a Research Fellow before being appointed as a Lecturer in Pharmacy in August 2014. His research area include particle engineering for improved solubility and dissolution and the field of controlled release formulations

Patrick completed his PhD in Pharmacogenomics at the University of Otago’s (New Zealand) Christchurch School of Medicine in 2006. Dr McHugh undertook Postdoctoral work in the University of Otago’s Department of Pathology and subsequent work as a Research Fellow in the University’s Carney Centre for Pharmacogenomics. For the past few years Dr McHugh has been working as a Research Scientist in the University of Bath’s Department of Biochemistry. In late 2011 Dr McHugh joined the University of Huddersfield as a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Applied Science’s Department of Pharmacy focusing on several areas of research including neuropathic pain, CNS drug pharmacogenomics and mental health neuroscience.

Katie has been a pharmacist for 27 years and recently joined Huddersfield from the University of Central Lancashire. With significant clinical pharmacy experience Katie’s research interest lie primarily in the area of pharmacy practice.

The Pharmacy team is also joined by Mohammed Iqbal and Lynn Haygarth as maternity cover. Welcome to Huddersfield one and all!
