The Department of Chemical Sciences welcomes Dr Jason Camp who joined the academic staff at the end of August.
Jason received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of California, Davis in June 2000. During his undergraduate studies he conducted research as an UCEAP Undergraduate Research Fellow supervised by Prof. Geoffrey T. Crisp (University of Adelaide, Australia) and completed an honours project with the support of Prof. Alan L Balch (UC Davis).
Following graduate studies with Prof. Robert Williams at Colorado State University he completed his PhD in 2007 under the supervision of Prof. Steven M. Weinreb at The Pennsylvania State University before undertaking postdoctoral research with Prof. Donald Craig (2008-2009) at Imperial College London. Following his postdoctoral work, Dr Camp was appointed as a Lecturer at the University of Nottingham (2009-2013) and then at Queen Mary University of London (2013-2014).
His current research interests are in the area of sustainable chemical synthesis; specifically the use of noble metals in multifaceted catalysis processes and the development of novel catalytic methods based on the ability of simple sugars to power catalytic reactions, sugar-powered catalysis.
