A bright future for UK inorganic chemistry

Last week the University hosted the three day Meeting of Inorganic Chemistry Recent Appointees (MICRA2014). The meeting, which takes place every two years, brings together early career academics from across the UK to talk about their research and to network.
Organised by the School of Applied Sciences' Dr Paul Elliott, Dr Pooja Panchmatia and Dr Nathan Patmore, the meeting saw a raft of impressive talks on research covering a wide range of inorganic chemistry from main group boron chemistry to the coordination chemistry of uranium. Plenary lectures were given by Royal Society of Chemistry Dalton Division president Prof David Cole-Hamilton and also Huddersfield’s Prof Craig Rice.
Paul says, "It was a fantastic conference allowing younger academic staff to meet each other, present their research, talk about funding opportunities and built long term collaborations for the future. It’s safe to say that the future of UK inorganic chemistry is in good hands and will continue to produce world-leading science". Attendees from the University of Bath kindly volunteered to host the next such meeting, MICRA2016.
