Working with Lonely Planet

The University has recently commissioned Lonely Planet to produce a 34-page guide titled ‘Explore Huddersfield’. The primary objective of the guide is to support undergraduate enquirers and applicants in their decision-making process and to reassure them that there are lots of exciting things to do in Huddersfield.
The guide is structured around six key areas:
Nightlife
Eating
Culture
Shopping
Outdoor Pursuits
Excursions
It also features quotes from our students about their favourite things to do in Huddersfield.
The guide will be distributed as follows:
- Prospectus requests (for undergraduate, postgraduate and international audiences)
- Freshers’ Fair 2014
- Open Days
- UCAS Fairs
- School and College Liaison visits (internal and external)
- International agents will be supplied with hard copies
- iPoint
Locations that feature in the guide will also be sent copies of the guide.

Lonely Planet is a popular destination/travel advisor and alignment with the Lonely Planet brand will support our recruitment and conversion activity.
See yourself in Huddersfield app
As an extension to the printed guide we have also developed a Facebook app. The app features our own students in a series of 22 short films, shot in a variety of locations mentioned in the Explore Huddersfield guide.
Users choose five of these locations to create their ‘perfect day’ in Huddersfield. This interactive, personalised app will then allow users to share their film with their family and friends, as well as request further information about studying at Huddersfield.
The app will be launched week commencing Monday 13 October via our social media platforms and we would encourage sharing on both University and personal accounts.
