The University welcomed a senior executive from Santander bank in the UK to deliver a guest lecture to its students and staff.
Steve Pateman is Santander’s Head of UK Banking and has years of experience in the financial sector. The title of his guest lecture was How to rebuild trust in the banking industry.
Mr Pateman joined Santander in June 2008 and became Executive Director, Head of UK Banking in March 2012. His responsibilities now cover Retail, Corporate, Commercial and Business Banking, incorporating all of Santander UK’s channels under his remit.
He was previously with NatWest and RBS, where he was CEO of Business Banking, Managing Director of Commercial Banking and Managing Director of Corporate Banking.
Mr Pateman also worked on a variety of financings, restructurings, capital market and equity issues during his time in NatWest Markets, where he specialised in the leisure and retail sectors.

In 2013, the University of Huddersfield became part of the Santander Universities Network, an international university network that Santander supports annually with 3,500 scholarships, grants and internships, as well as other activities.
As part of this, the University has already approved study visits for students to Hong Kong, Brazil, the USA and the Netherlands. As the relationship with Santander grows and develops, it is hoped that more study visits will be taking place in the future.
“I have been really impressed with Santander’s commitment to the HE sector and their growing commitment to our own enterprise agenda,” said the University’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Peter Slee, at the lecture. “It has been so refreshing for me to experience such a forward-thinking and progressive strategy with a company that is so easy to work with.
“Steve Pateman is an extremely busy man and we are extremely grateful that he has taken time to visit us here in Huddersfield and give the lecture.”
