Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival

Tue, 25 Nov 2014 14:45:00 GMT

All staff and students are invited to take part in FREE activities taking place in Heritage Quay, the University’s Archive, as part of this year’s Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (HCMF).  Early booking is advised as places are limited.

Through the Quay-hole (HCMF edition)
Monday 24 November, 10.00am - 10.45am

The first event is a special behind-the-scenes tour of Heritage Quay. As well as the chance to see the shiny new repository spaces and learn about the archive collections, they will also be getting out some interesting gems from the HCMF archive and British Music Collection for you to get your hands on. What better way to kick off the HCMF shorts day? You can book your free place on the tour here.

Composing for non-composers
Saturday 29 November, 10.00am – 12.00noon

This second event is a little different.  On the second Saturday of the festival Heritage Quay are running a one-off composition workshop. Led by professional composer and musician Duncan Chapman, Heritage Quay will be transformed in to a sound lab for you to come and play in. Everyone will learn about how to compose without using traditional methods and will leave having contributed to a brand new composition. No musical or composition skills are required (if you do have these skills that’s fine too).  You can book your free place here.

The contemporary classical music goodness doesn’t end there. If you can’t make it to one of these sessions then make sure you visit Heritage Quay from Monday 24 November to Thursday 27 November and have a go on the #BigCurvyScreen. In honour of the festival all the content on the screen will be taken from the British Music Collection – see if you can find a favourite or discover a new earworm to take you through the rest of the festival.
