Celebrating the science of measurement in Huddersfield

World Metrology Day The EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Advanced Metrology will be celebrating World Metrology Day this year by joining forces with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre (3M BIC) in Huddersfield and organising events and talks aimed at businesses.

The 3M BIC will be opening its doors on Tuesday 20 May from 2-6pm  and visitors will have the opportunity to tour science laboratories and see metrology experiments and research in action. NPL and the University of Huddersfield will be hosting a series of short lectures which examine the relevance of metrology in business and the support available to companies including NPL’s Product Verification Health Checks and Knowledge Transfer Networks.

World-leading measurement technology companies including Faro, Hexagon Metrology, Nikon, Renishaw and Taylor Hobson will also be on hand to answer questions and demonstrate metrology equipment.

Dr Andrew Longstaff, research lead in Machine Tool Metrology at the EPSRC Centre said: “The EPSRC Centre is actively engaged in raising the profile of metrology to as wide an audience as possible. World Metrology Day is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our expertise but also demonstrate how our research can benefit business.”

Dr Michael Wilson, technology director at the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre, said: “The science of measurement has a huge impact on our daily lives but many people and businesses don’t realise it. This event is all about giving companies a better understanding of measurement, and if done correctly, how it can help save energy, improve productivity and ultimately increase business performance.”

The event is free and doors will open from 2pm-6pm. To register for the event, visit www.3mbic.com/event/world-metrology-day-open-house-2014/.
