3rd warmest and 7th driest

It was the 3rd warmest and 7th driest April since our records began.  The average figures are those recorded since 1990 from the School of Applied Sciences Weather station.

The monthly mean temperature was 10.7˚C (average 9.3˚C) resulting in the third warmest April since our records began.  The warmest day of the month was Wednesday 5th with an average temperature of 14.6˚C.  The highest maximum temperature of 20.2˚C was recorded on Tuesday 29th.   The coldest day of the month was Wednesday 2nd with an average temperature of 6.9˚C.  The lowest minimum temperature of 1.1˚C was recorded on Friday 18th.

A total of 33.8mm of rainfall was recorded during the month (average 54.8mm) making it the 7th driest April since our records began.  The wettest day of the month was Monday 7th with 5.6mm of rainfall (16.5% of the month’s total).  Sixteen days of the month escaped rainfall the driest spells falling between Tuesday 8th and Friday 11th and Sunday 13th and Wednesday 16th.

The mean wind speed for the month was 12.1km/hr.  The highest mean wind speed was 26.64km/hr recorded on Sunday 20th.  The highest gust of wind for the whole month was 98.28km/hr again recorded on Sunday 20th.

The prevailing wind direction for the month was south west.
