‌Get published in a new online journal showcasing outstanding peer reviewed work to the world and receive support to develop your work for publication in Fields.

Fields is being launched as part of the 2013-2018 University Teaching and Learning strategy to showcase the best of our undergraduate research work and demonstrate why Huddersfield is so proud of its students.

The online journal is being published on the University of Huddersfield Press open access platform. Fields will include articles but also other formats appropriate to research in different disciplines including poems, music, animation, performance, garments, web-sites and practice-based research. Work in a form other than written material should be accompanied by a short written commentary.

An opportunity to publish

Fields gives you the opportunity to take your work and ideas further than coursework. It provides the chance to be part of an academic community exploring new ideas through research.

The journal encourages authors to:

  • aspire to the highest academic standards
  • learn how to present work to a professional standard
  • respond to a challenging and stimulating goal

How to get involved?

The first stage of selection this year will be undertaken at School level in June/July, mostly based on work submitted for assessment. All students on taught courses can submit and tutors are encouraged to nominate outstanding work. Funding will be available to help selected students prepare their work for submission to the University Editorial Board in September.

This project is aimed primarily at undergraduate students but a maximum of one of the three items submitted from each school may be a piece of PGT work. If you are a student and would like to submit your work please contact one of the School champions:

  • Applied Sciences (Dr Robert Allan)
  • Art, Design and Architecture (Dr Jess Power)
  • Business School (Professor Caroline Elliott)
  • School of Education and Professional Development (Dr Robin Simmons)
  • Human and Health Sciences (Dr Jamie Halsall and Dr Joanna Smith)
  • Music, Humanities and Media (Dr Pat Cullum)
  • School of Computing and Engineering (Dr Rupert Ward)
