Support Staff Conference Our Event Management students would like to share with you their experience of organising this year’s Support Staff Conference, so over to them:

We thought we’d give you some inside information on what’s happening behind the scenes of this year’s Support Staff Conference.  This year's team consists of (from left) Margarita Dimitriou, Susan Broadbent, Shen Yu and Leann Beevers.

The Support Staff Conference has been taking place for the last eight years, however, for the last three years the University’s final year Event Management students have helped to organise the event with a rotating team each year.

We are really excited to organise this year’s Support Staff Conference as it is a very high profile event on campus. Some of us have attended and volunteered at the event in previous years and we’re aware how valuable the event is for staff.  We are happy to contribute by offering our support. Our responsibilities include room bookings, communicating with staff, arranging workshops and designing promotional material for marketing purposes.

Although some of the students had a placement year and have planned several events in the past, they see this event as an opportunity to gain more valuable experience and become more confident in planning future events.

This year the team is doing things a little different so we have been working on a new line-up of workshops, from time management to chocolateering. Also this year there is a choice of 30 workshops and staff can attend four workshops, twice the amount than in previous years.

We hope that the staff attending the event will enjoy themselves and ‘make a small change and a big difference’ at the University of Huddersfield where we have grown as Event Managers for the past four years.

Coming soon: we’ll be sharing our interview with this year’s key note speaker, Christine Wilkinson, the President of the Huddersfield Textile Society.
