A delegation of six researchers in Literature from the Leibniz University, Hanover , Germany joined  English Literature researchers at Huddersfield  for a joint symposium and research meeting 24-26th February.  Professor Rainer Emig, both a chair at Leibniz University, Hanover and a Visiting Professor at the University of Huddersfield led the activities, which included a series of papers around the theme of Critical Materialities.  The papers ranged from the literature of post slavery, Flann O’Brien’s Dublin, Alzheimers in contemporary literature, Conan Doyle’s  scientific romance, Victorian factory lives and the contrasting cases of married and never married women in the seventeenth century. The thematic thread which links the work of this partnership is materiality in literature, and this research partnership aims to develop a unique approach within this field.

An international conference of invited presenters and a book project are planned by the partnership in 2015.
