Due to the modernisation of Egyptian society in the past 50 years and the ongoing difficult economic conditions, more Egyptian women are now present in the workplace and family members have to work longer hours in order to raise their incomes. This socio-economic change has represented a huge opportunity for the global and local Egyptian fast food chains which are targeting Egyptian consumers with their branded offerings. Fast-food chains in Egypt use social media widely in their communications’ strategies  with their customers. They use Facebook to keep connected with their target audiences. Whether global or local, fast food chains have their brand pages on Facebook and use paid advertisements on this social network.

This presentation will cover aspects of global and local fast food chains’ communications efforts in Egypt and the popularity of Facebook as the most widely used social media network by Egyptians.
