Entrepreneurial, Business Management student, Michael Burke has been working round the clock to develop and launch his own online business, a hotel comparison website, Tripivia.com. The site aims to offer a “one stop shop” for all your travel needs.

Michael comments: “I wanted to develop a hotel comparison website that would incorporate price comparison from major hotel booking sites such as Expedia, customer reviews, relevant travel news, travel blogging and the ability to upload and share your travel/holiday photos within a social community all in one website, hence Tripivia was born!”

“I found that when using other hotel comparison websites you would often have to leave the website to conduct further research about that particular hotel before making a booking and that’s why I had the idea to create a website which would allow you to find out all the information you needed in one place without the need for leaving the site. The facility for people to add their own photos and share their experiences is to help give people a ‘real insight’ into the place they are thinking of booking.”

The main function of the website is to offer visitors a price comparison facility to search for the best hotel prices on the web. However, Michael’s website aims to offer a competitive advantage over others with some advanced new features he is planning on introducing.

Michael said: “The site is still in development stage and I aim to add a review facility such as Tripadvisor, enhanced profiles and live availability to allow visitors to access the latest and most accurate prices on the web. I am really pleased with the site’s progress as I now have between 60,000 - 70,000 hotels available on the website in over 100 locations across Europe and worldwide. I am roughly getting 2000 unique visitors per week and the site is continuing to grow steadily. I have found that I have been able to directly apply what I’ve learnt on my course at Huddersfield University to help build my business. My long term aim and career ambition is to continually develop the website in the hope I can achieve first page rankings and meet sales targets of 200 per week. As the site grows, I will continue to set myself new targets to ensure the website is at its very best.”

Michael is heavily involved with business management, managing partner relations, marketing and SEO of the website. He also manages a small team of web developers and content writers.

Michael is keen to constantly improve the website and would welcome any thoughts and feedback on the site.
