Our second year Interior Design BA(Hons) students were awarded by Mobile Mini last month for best piece of design utilising shipping containers.

The students partnered up with Mobile Mini last September on a project focused on utilising standard shipping containers in innovative and creative ways. This was to form retail, leisure and study spaces within Temple Works in Leeds, an arts and design space which features installations from artists across the world.

Our students initially worked in small groups, utilising their University knowledge and experience, and then carried on individually to develop their own creations.

Mobile Mini said “We were fascinated by the thought of what a group of students could create and it was great to see how customers can utilise our containers, from one of our blueprints”.

Second Year Interior Design prize winners

The winner of the competition Abigail Weegram was awarded £100 for her project and the three runners up Abigail Hancox, Jennifer Walton and Katie Robinson were also awarded £75.

Mobile Mini and Epiphany who visited Queens Street Studios to present the prizes last month said “The results were simply fantastic and we are blown away by the imagination and talent of these young designers. We think this is a very good sign of things that can come from storage containers”.

Winner Abigail Weegram created the “Street Bar”, a bar and street food style restaurant aimed in bringing the chef and the diners together in a relaxing restaurant atmosphere. Abigail’s attention to detail and presentation of her project has impressed Mobile Mini making her the winner of the competition.

Mobile Mini said “We were particularly impressed in the way food was presented to diners from a moving food cart and the storage container was split lengthways into dining and cooking areas, creating subtle integration of the restaurant’s two functions”.
