Members of the School of Education and Professional Development staff at the University of Huddersfield have produced an update of their teacher training guide entitled ‘Teaching in Lifelong Learning: A Guide to Theory and Practice’, published by the Open University Press in August 2014.

The book has been updated to address new Professional Standards for Teachers and other recent changes, effectively marrying theory with practice. Earlier editions have been praised for being accessible and readable. It has been identified as essential reading for those teaching or training to teach in the lifelong learning sector.

Written by Professor James Avis, Dr Roy Fisher and Dr Ron Thompson of the School of Education and Professional Development at the University, many other current staff offered contributions: Dr Lyn Ashmore, Wayne Bailey, Dr Liz Bennett, Julie Dalton, Liz Dixon, Frances Marsden, Dr Kevin Orr, David Powell, Cheryl Reynolds, Dr Emma Salter, Professor Robin Simmons, Professor Paul Thomas, Dr Martyn Walker, Sarah Williamson and Dr Andrew Youde.

Reviews for the last edition included, from the Journal of Education for Teaching, "This is an excellent book for teachers entering the lifelong learning sector...it is a very helpful mirror and guide for those entering, or established in, this diverse and rewarding sector."
