With support from VCO and Estates, the Library entrance and a large part of Floor 4 of the University Library are being refurbished this summer.  It is seven years since the last refurbishment, and following the creation of Student Central, the Library entrance area will benefit from an uplift.  The aim is to create a striking entrance floor which enhances the profile of the University Library and inspires students and staff to use our wonderful resources.  The improvements include:

  • Help desk and enquiry services will be reconfigured and made more visible
  • The self-service laptop loan service will be extended and made available 24/7 throughout the year
  • All lighting and carpeting  will be renewed
  • There will be spaces to display art work, which we hope to commission from students.

Building work will start immediately after the graduation ceremonies.  All services currently offered on floor 4 (self-service book issues/returns, help desk, enquiry services, laptop loans) will relocate at 5pm on Wednesday 23rd July to floor 5, and remain there until floor 4 reopens in time for Open Day on Saturday 20 September.   A books returns box will also be available in the Harold Wilson reception area, during evenings and weekends.

The Library will operate its normal summer opening hours which are:

Monday to Thursday 8.45am – 8pm

Friday 8.45am – 5pm

Saturday 1-5pm

The 24/7 computing facility in the atrium will remain open throughout the summer.
