Awards season came to Huddersfield in July as the University of Huddersfield celebrated its graduates.
For thousands of students and their families it is one of the proudest weeks of their life as some 3,100 students took part in the University of Huddersfield’s graduation ceremonies.
Day one included the traditional procession through the centre of Huddersfield which allows the general public to witness the successful students receiving awards. This was led by University of Huddersfield Chancellor, Sir Patrick Stewart (pictured left).
Students, who have achieved Bachelor and Masters Degrees, plus other qualifications and Doctorates in a huge range of subject areas, wore academic robes and headgear as they attended the sequence of ceremonies at the University’s own St Paul’s church.
Among the graduates was Vietnamese student Ngoc Vu (pictured right) who completed her Bachelor’s in Marketing from the University Business School. "It is one of the best moments in my life ever, my family is so proud of me; no words can describe how happy I am to have finally graduated from a great university such as Huddersfield."
During the course of the ceremonies, 3,148 students received their awards and were joined by more than 6,000 guests.
This was the longest sequence of graduation ceremonies yet held at the University, because of higher-than-usual numbers of graduates. For the first time, the University’s new Student Central building was used for many of the activities surrounding the ceremonies, including champagne receptions for graduates and their guests.
There will be a second graduation ceremony in November at the University of Huddersfield.
