Gérémy Abeille came to Huddersfield as an exchange student from the University of Toulon, France as part of the Erasmus programme. Since moving back to Toulon, he kindly shared his experiences in an open and honest entry on the 'Harold Wilson's Pipe' blog.

In his piece, Gérémy provides an insight into his initial thoughts, feelings and reservations of Huddersfield and the subject, Politics as he surprisingly first discovers that this would be his area of study whilst over in the UK. He then explains how these reservations were quashed by an amazing experience that has since influenced him to undertake a Master’s by Research in Politics.

In one example, he talks about his realisation that not everybody speaks the Queen's English, commenting, '...the first two weeks weren’t very easy for me. I guess it takes time to adapt to a new environment and a new accent. Before landing in this amazing region of Yorkshire, I thought I knew what English was but when I heard the local accent, I told myself ‘you know nothing Geremy!’ – I guess in school we’re more familiar to southern and BBC accents, not the “Ey up” from Yorkshire!'.

He also talks about the friends he made on campus whilst in Huddersfield and how he became actively involved in campus campaigns during the student elections.
