It has been an exceptional year for the School of Art, Design and Architecture students and staff. It is with pleasure to announce that 27 of our recent graduates have won the Chancellor’s Prize Award for Outstanding Achievement.
The students received their awards at the Chancellor Prize Awards Ceremony which took place on Wednesday 16 July at the University. The School of Art, Design and Architecture’s Dean, Professor Michail Kagioglou said “I feel very privileged to receive this good news of the high achievements of our graduates. I am convinced that the dedication of our academic staff and the focus on employability, placements and career development, and the commitment of our students has enabled this great result to come about. I would like to congratulate all of our students for their great achievement and I wish them all the best for their future careers and professional development.”
Throughout their university journey, our students have won many awards, exhibited their work at international competitions and also this year’s Graduate Shows, which took place in June. Here is what they have told us about their University experience and their prize awards.
Bethany Jayne Middleton, Contemporary Art graduate told us “I am completely overwhelmed to be named as one of the top graduates at the University of the Year and I cannot thank the University, the tutors and support staff enough for their complete support and dedication to all the students.”
Carl Strathearn, a Multimedia Design graduate told us “I feel very honoured to have been selected for the Chancellor’s Award. It has been one of the highlights of my academic journey so far. However, credit should also be given to my tutor, Spencer Roberts for his continued support and always encouraging my ambitious ideas.”
Lucy Victoria Tindall (work shown above left), Architecture International graduate told us: “After three enjoyable years at the University Of Huddersfield I feel proud to have walked away with a great degree and the Chancellor’s Prize, however one of the best things I will be leaving with are some great experiences and new friends. I would not change anything about my experiences at Huddersfield as I have developed as an individual and feel ready to go into employment in the knowledge that I have had the best possible start to my future career in architecture.”
Hollie Crossley, Fashion Design with Textiles graduate told us “I was thrilled to receive the Chancellor’s Prize this year. It has been an extremely hectic year and the long nights seem to have paid off! It is a fabulous thing to have on my CV and will hopefully put me in good stead for getting a job. Huddersfield has been so welcoming, encouraging and homely, the perfect environment for me to complete four years of studies. I feel ready to go out into the industry with all the knowledge this University and the industrial placement year has taught me.”
Adriana Tavares (work shown above right), Textile Crafts graduate told us “The recognition of hard work and a real passion for my subject was given to me when I was awarded the Chancellor’s Prize. I am elated and very proud to be able to hold this award and it shows that all the ambition, determination and enjoyment of what I do has paid off. My time at the University of Huddersfield has been a continuous learning experience of the best moments in my life so far. I have learnt so much about what I do and most importantly about myself, which has led me to be able to create an exciting and fulfilling future career path. I have enjoyed my time at the University so much that I have not wanted to leave just yet, therefore I am now pursing my Master’s in Research to continue my studies and further develop my skills as a Crafts Practitioner.”
Catalina Elena Ionita, Architecture graduate is now an Architectural Assistant at WCEC Architects and she told us “I am extremely honoured to receive the Chancellor's Prize Award and to be a graduate of this wonderful University. A review of the list of past winners, with their excellent practice records, reveals the significance of this award. The overall experience at the University of Huddersfield was an amazing opportunity for me and my future career. I met the most wonderful people in the world and I have learned not only how to become a successful architect, but a successful and strong person as well.”
Lucas Jubb (work shown left) a Graphic Design graduate has now started working full time as a Freelance Graphic Designer at Feral Studios, a creative studio space based in Elland, West Yorkshire. He told us “It was a great achievement to receive the Chancellor’s Prize, it felt great to be shown appreciation for the hard work I've put in for the last four years. The certificate will be taking a proud place in my studio next to my desk. The Chancellor’s Prize is not something everybody gets, so to get that on top of a first class honours degree was a great testament to what I had done. I couldn't have done it without the support of my tutors, technicians, family and friends.”
Congratulations to all our graduates and best of luck with your future.
