NOVUS Students meet their Mentors

Mentors from ASOS (Mark Holland), Wincanton (Keith Lawrence & Ian Howe), DHL (Ian MacAulay), Clipper (Peter Charlesworth) and Palletways (Peter Lascelles) join Andy Kaye, David Leach and NOVUS students to launch the mentoring initiative.

An important milestone has been reached in the establishment of the NOVUS Trust supply chain undergraduate scheme as the first batch of students were introduced to their industry mentors.

Twenty two students were selected for the 2013 NOVUS scheme pilot following a rigorous assessment process managed by the companies supporting the initiative.  All have now commenced their studies in supply chain management at the University of Huddersfield, secure in the knowledge they have the guarantee of a graduate job on completion - providing they achieve a minimum 2:1 degree classification.

A key element of the programme, designed and delivered collaboratively with industry, is the provision of a mentor to guide students with their professional development and to build their understanding of the industry environment.    Mentors, drawn from the 23 companies sponsoring the scheme, occupy a variety of positions – with many at a very senior level.  ‘There are several supply chain / logistics directors amongst the mentors’, commented David Leach, NOVUS programme leader at the University. ‘It has been fantastic to witness the enthusiasm for the scheme that all mentors have shown.  The feedback from students has been excellent as they seize the opportunity to learn from experienced people in the industry.’

Mentors and students were introduced at an event held at the University. ‘It was a proud moment’, said Andy Kaye, Chair of the NOVUS Trust. ‘To see the students meet as a group with their mentors for the first time demonstrated the excellent progress being made with the establishment of the scheme.’

Applications for 2014 entry to the NOVUS BSc (Hons) in Logistics & Supply Chain Management remain open – see www.novus.uk.com for details.
