International Week (3 – 7 March)

Everyone is welcome to join in with International Week on campus from 3 to 7 March.
The week promises 5 days of activities, celebrations and entertainment including sports, culture, film, food and fun.
Monday
The week begins with a‘World of Sport’ tournament in the University Sports Hall at 9.30am including: Tchoukball, basketball, handball and volleyball. While this is happening there will be ‘Afrika/Caribbean Day’ happening where you will have a great opportunity to experience all things African and Caribbean through our international societies in the Central Services Building Atrium from 11.00am.
Film: The opening day will conclude with the launch of the International Film Festival in the Harold Wilson building with the American blockbuster ‘Captain Philips’ starring Tom Hanks – this is a FREE event.
Tuesday
The week continues with a celebration of Asia in the Central Services Building Atrium. If you thought
you knew everything about this huge continent then think again! A great day ahead showcasing the very best in culture and fun from Asia hosted by our very own international students’ societies.
Sport: Meanwhile in the University Sports Hall you can get involved and try a sport you have never done before. Team Hud will be on hand to introduce some new sports including fencing, frisbee, indoor cricket, badminton plus many, many more.
Film: The FREE International Film Festival continues with films from the Cayman Islands and Vietnam (with English subtitles).
Wednesday
One of the biggest dates in the University calendar – the International Food and Culture Festival will take place in Quayside from 12.00pm. This FREE event allows all our international student societies to showcase their cuisines, culture and fashion to the campus and gives you a great chance to meet them and discover more about their countries. Film: The FREE International Film Festival continues with a film from South Korea (with English subtitles).
Thursday
It’s all about Cultural Exchange today where you will have a chance to try something you never have before from around the world, whether it’s fashion, food, games, crafts or music.
Film: The FREE International Film Festival concludes with a movie from Lithuania (with nglish subtitles).
Friday
The week’s activities conclude with a World Cup 5-a-side football tournament ‘The Road to Brazil’ in the University Sports Hall in Student Central. Meanwhile on the ground level of Student Central there will be Latin American Day. Hosted by the Latin American and Hispanic Society there will be workshops, dancing and performances including Mexican dancing, Brazilian percussionists, salsa dancing and lots more activity.
Huddersfood will also be supporting the week selling hot food on an ever-changing daily menu to reflect International Week.
