Esen Ezgi Tascioglu, a PhD student based at the University of Milan, has joined the Centre for Research in the Social Sciences (CRISS) as a visiting researcher.

Esen’s PhD is entitled 'Between Opposition and Belonging: Transwomen's Citizenship and the Law in Turkey'. It focuses on the relationship of transwomen and with the law in Turkey, aiming to understand in what ways the law is implicated in transwomen's citizenship experiences and practices, analysing legal texts and life-story narratives of transwomen.

Esen is currently a PhD candidate at the 'Renato Treves' International PhD Program in Law and Society, organised by a consortium of European universities from Italy, Sweden, Spain and Belgium, and coordinated by the University of Milan.

Esen’s visit to CRISS, which will last until 30 June 2014, is funded by the Juan Celaya Grant, annually awarded by the International Institute for the Sociology of Law to socio-legal research projects, which deal with the effects of globalisation on legal phenomena.

She is keen to share her personal experiences and intellectual curiosities with students and staff at the University, and can be contacted via e-mail:
