97% of students sitting examinations in the Centre passed their preparation courses and achieved guaranteed places on their chosen degrees

2014 was another record year for the University of Huddersfield International Study Centre (ISC).

In the summer of 2014, 97% of students sitting examinations in the Centre passed their preparation courses and achieved guaranteed places on their chosen degrees at the University, breaking previous records.

HRH Prince Andrew The International Study Centre (opened by HRH The Duke of York, pictured left), based in the heart of the campus, provides degree preparation courses for international students who do not meet the requirements for direct entry to the University.  Combining academic modules, study skills and English language training, the programmes qualify students to meet the challenges of undergraduate and postgraduate degree-level study at the University.

The University currently welcomes over 3,000 international students from approximately 125 countries and such a large number brings an international dimension to the university as well as the town.

Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) Professor David Taylor said: “Students arriving in the UK from their home country have many important academic and cultural adaptations to make.

‌“Adapting quickly is essential if students are to reach their full potential whilst at the University.  Our International Study Centre plays an important role in preparing the students for study on their degree courses and the Centre is one of the most successful in the country.”

Huddersfield’s International Study Centre was opened six years ago by His Royal Highness The Duke of York, who is now a Patron of the University, and has since then seen almost 1,000 students progress onto degree courses at Huddersfield.

His chosen degree was a BEng in Mechanical Engineering and in his third year he undertook a 12-month paid work placement with GM/Vauxhall Motors as part of his undergraduate programme and graduated with a First Class Honours degree in 2014.

To add to this accolade he was also the inaugural President of the University’s Bangladeshi Students Society.  He has now begun a PhD at the University in the School of Computing and Engineering.
