Capturing the story of communities affected by the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami The Boxing Day tsunami in December 2004 is one of the deadliest disasters in recent history. Resulting in over 230,000 fatalities in countries surrounding the Indian Ocean; Indonesia, India, Thailand and Sri Lanka were among the worst hit. Ten years on, many things have changed since that tragic disaster; cities have been rebuilt, communities have been relocated, warning systems have been installed, but the way of life for some communities has changed. How do they really see this change?Capturing the story of communities affected by the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami

Dr Kaushal Keraminiyage and a group of researchers from the Global Disaster Resilience Centre, University of Huddersfield are visiting the relocated tsunami affected communities in Sri Lanka, attempting to capture their story. They are working in collaboration with researchers from the University of Moratuwa and University of Colombo in Sri Lanka.  They will conduct a series of interviews to inform their research on long term post-disaster recovery efforts and will present this story in the form of a short video documentary and a photo narrative. For further information about this initiative, please contact Dr Keraminiyage at k.keraminiyage@hud.ac.uk.
