On Wednesday 17 December, over 200 third year undergraduate nursing students had the opportunity to gain an insight into the variety and complexity of current local health and social care provision at a Health and Social Care Stakeholders Event, hosted at the University.

The event was attended by 15 local health and social care providers, including Priory Group Hospital, Richmond Fellowship, Caritas, Cygnat Health, Precedo Healthcare Services, St Anne’s Community Services, as well as two local Acute Trusts (Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trusts and Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust). This was also supported by Age Concern, The Army Medical Directorate and The Royal College of Nursing.

The event enabled the students to discover much more about each organisations unique contribution to local health care provision, whilst also offering the prospect of considering future employment opportunities with the health, social care and voluntary organisations present. Such considerations were also supported by Gillian Coyle from the Universities Careers Advice services.

This also featured a lively Question Time Style Panel, Chaired by The Dean of the School of Human and Health Sciences, Professor John Playle alongside several of the stakeholder representatives, who offered their opinions on some challenging questions from the student group.
