Louis Hutson Business Management student, Louis Hutson, has been awarded an “Unsung Hero” Award by Unilever, manufacturer and distributor of a number of well-known home, personal care and food brands such as Persil, Lynx, and Ben & Jerry’s, whilst on his work placement at the company.

The Unsung Hero Award is chosen and awarded by the Chairman of the UK&I business each month and is recognition for high performance, delivering a high standard of work and going the extra mile.

Louis is thrilled to have received the award for his contribution in helping the company “go green” through his recycling and re-use initiatives.

I feel really proud to have won this award as I’ve put a lot of work into achieving what’s mentioned above and this is great recognition. It also came as a complete surprise which added to the occasion!

I was selected for this award for two main reasons. Firstly, I’ve worked on improving recycling rates at the head office. Part of this involved completely redesigning the signage on the bins. I particularly enjoyed working with external agencies in creating the designs - this felt like I was in a challenge similar to one you’d watch on ‘The Apprentice’! And secondly, as part of a project I am managing which will see the regular redistribution of surplus stock to charity, an entire truckload of tea was donated to two charities.”

Louis also explains more about what he has been doing on his work placement:

“My role focuses heavily on sustainability within the supply chain and this has given me great exposure to many other parts of the business as well as the opportunity to represent Unilever externally, both with customers and industry bodies. Overall, though whilst at times challenging, I have really enjoyed my time with Unilever and the experience on the whole has enabled me to learn and improve a lot - this award really is the icing on the cake!”

Well done Louis!
