People from all over UK came to the 34th edition of Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday 13 April. It's the world’s largest annual fundraising event and since 1981 runners have raised over £600 million for good causes.
Out of the 36000 people that took part in London Marathon, our Huddersfield Marathon Marching Band was the highlight of the day.
The band, mostly made up of music students from University of Huddersfield, were said to be "exhausted but elated."
Lisa Colton, Music subject leader, said: "We are so proud of them. They have beaten the world record and will probably smash their fundraising target as well. And they've done all this in addition to their studies, which is fantastic."
Christine Avis, Music BMus student described how she trained for this competition.
“Me and Asher (also in the band) trained at our local park early, waking up at 6 every day. We loosely followed the Virgin Marathon plan, along with days out with other participants (including a walk to Castle Hill and back) and a walk from Huddersfield to Mirfield. “
Twitter feeds flowed with congrats for their achievement as soon as the competition ended.
