Finding England conference
Mon, 16 Sep 2013 10:03:00 BST
Wednesday 12 March sees the Academy for British and Irish Studies host a major day-long event on the subject of ‘Finding England’. It pursues various interpretations of what England and Englishness was, is, and might be. It considers who it excludes, to whom it appeals, and its subdivisions. It even asks where one might England, despite that seeming the easiest question about the nation to answer. Bringing together a number of invited speakers from the worlds of research, education, policy, culture, literature and design, the event promises to take on contentious areas of debate (from the EU to ethnicity, and from emigration to the north/south divide) and open new questions. More details will follow in the next bulletin and on our website.
