Prof John Atherton Professor John Atherton will give the second of this year's Applied Sciences Public Lectures on Wednesday 13 November, entitled "Chemistry is good for you - life would not be enjoyable without it".

'Chemicals' are often blamed for some of the less positive aspects of our world and our lifestyles but in this lecture, Prof Atherton will argue that many of the more positive improvements to our lives over the last 150 years wouldn't have been possible without chemistry.

From the fertilizers that allow crops to grow, to medicines which help us to live longer, more pleasant lives, this lecture will examine how chemistry has improved your life.

‌Professor Atherton joined the University of Huddersfield in 2004 following a long career in process chemistry with major chemical companies including ICI, Zeneca and Avecia.

The lecture is in the Canalside West Lecture Theatre (CWS/10) and begins at 6.30pm with refreshments available from 6.00pm.  If you would like to attend please email Janet Goodridge
