The 5th Technical Meeting of the European FP7 HARCO project took place in Huddersfield on the 26th and 27th March. Consortium partners from Belgium, Germany, Israel and Italy visited Huddersfield to see the demonstration of the Structural Monitoring Module devised by the University of Huddersfield and of new active dampers designed by Cheshire-based DVST. It was also an opportunity to present results, discuss ideas and cement international relations.

HARCO is a European Framework Programe (FP7) project which aims to create "Adaptive Smart Components" for measurement and control of errors in manufacturing systems. In this project, the University of Huddersfield is designing and prototyping structural monitoring modules for measuring the thermal distortion of manufacturing equipment during operation. Smart control techniques are being evaluated for application of more efficient compensation methods.
