REF2014 The Research Excellence Framework (REF) has replaced the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) as the mechanism for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions.

This year we have submitted 262 staff to the REF, comprised of 887 research outputs (including a range of journal, book, audio, design, media and software publications) to 13 Units of Assessment. This is an impressive increase of 143% in terms of staff, 126% for research outputs and 106% for the Units of Assessment covered.

Our outputs consist of 54 authored books, 8 edited books, 74 book chapters, 661 journal articles, 16 conference proceedings, 5 patents, 3 pieces of software, 1 website, 30 compositions, 2 designs, 25 exhibitions, 1 research report for an external body and 7 items of digital or visual media.

The results of the REF will be published in December 2014 and we will be notified of our funding allocation in March 2015.
