Mayor holds civic reception for the University of the Year

University’s success toasted by the Council

In celebration of becoming the Times Higher Education’s University of the Year, the University of Huddersfield toasted its success at a civic reception held at Huddersfield Town Hall.
The reception was hosted by the Mayor of Kirklees, Cllr Martyn Bolt, and the Mayor welcomed the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Bob Cryan and a small number of University staff.
Cllr Bolt was a special guest of the University when His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent presented the University with its two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in October.
He took the opportunity presented by the civic reception to offer his personal congratulations to Professor Cryan and the University as a whole on being awarded the title of the University of the Year.
In his speech he added that it was only right and proper that such a prestigious honour was recognised by the Council, which enjoys a “marvellous relationship with the University”.
Responding to the compliment, Professor Cryan thanked Cllr Bolt for his kind words before going on to praise all of the University’s staff. He said that the award was a tribute to all the hard work of what he described as Team Huddersfield.
Also in attendance from the Council on the day was the Leader of the Council, Cllr Mehboob Khan, the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Ken Smith and the Chief Executive of the Council, Mr Adrian Lythgo.
