Exercise, Physical Activity and Health BSc(Hons) becomes Exercise Science BSc(Hons)

The Exercise, Physical Activity and Health (EPAH) BSc(Hons) course has now changed name to Exercise Science BSc(Hons). Kiara Lewis, Head of Division of Health and Wellbeing stated, “It is felt the name Exercise Science more concisely summarises the course aims and is an easily recognisable term for both prospective students and future employers”.‌

Exercise Science is a developing field within the UK and demand for expertise in this area is increasing. Research has shown that exercise, sport and physical activity can improve physiological and psychological health and wellbeing, and is therefore important in the long-term prevention and management of a wide range of diseases.

However, the challenges of encouraging people to lead more active lifestyles remain, as studies prove the number of people with diseases linked to physical inactivity and poor nutrition is still increasing dramatically.

The newly named Exercise Science BSc(Hons) course is designed to provide its students with an opportunity to develop professional skills and knowledge to promote physical activity as an intervention to achieve health and wellbeing.

The name change comes shortly after the grand opening of the new Biomechanics and Physiology lab in October 2013.

The opening provided demonstrations of newly installed equipment, including a state-of-the-art 3D high motion analysis system and was attended by Huddersfield Town Football Club players Jake Carroll and Daniel Carr, Darren Robinson, Head of Performance (pictured).

The launch was also attended by retired player and ambassador for the club, Andy Booth.

Exercise Science is available for both full-time and part-time study. Join the online community via Twitter and Facebook.
