Cooling off period

dead leaves WINTER began with the seventh coolest November since our records began; however, the temperature only fell below zero on one day.  Rainfall was below average.  The average figures are those recorded by the Applied Sciences weather station since 1990.

The monthly mean temperature was 6.88˚C over half a degree colder than the average figure for November of 7.6˚C.  The warmest day of the month was Monday 11th with an average temperature of 11.7˚C, the highest maximum temperature of 14˚C was also recorded on this day.  The coldest day of the month was Friday 22nd with an average temperature of 3˚C, the lowest minimum temperature of -0.5˚C was also recorded on this day.  The warmest day of the month was Monday 11th with an average temperature of 11.7˚C, the highest maximum temperature of 14˚C was also recorded on this day.  The temperature fell below zero on just one day of the month.

A total of 63.4mm of rainfall was recorded during the month compared to the average figure of 74.35mm.  The wettest day of the month was Tuesday 19th with 10.2mm (16.1% of the month’s total) of rain fall; however Wednesday was also wet with 10mm of rainfall.   Seven days of the month escaped rainfall.  The driest spell falling between Thursday 14th and Sunday 17th inclusive.

The mean wind speed for the month was 10.13km/hr.  The highest mean wind speed was 27.72km/hr recorded on Saturday 2nd.  The highest gust of wind for the whole month was 102.24km/hr recorded on Saturday 2nd

The prevailing wind direction for the whole month was southwest.
