‌Advertising and marketing communications student Laura Gutierrez has recently been featured in Spanish digital marketing magazine Interactiva, as a result of her 12 month placement with digital agency Wunderman.

laura-gutierrez Laura returned to her home city of Madrid to take up a placement with the agency as part of the company’s Zed Academy, an international programme to provide students with work experience. She won her place at the agency’s research arm where she works mostly on the Telefonica account, owner of mobile brand O2.

She told the magazine about her experience researching the O2 Christmas Priority Moments campaign in South America. Laura was surprised to find that although most of the countries speak Spanish, they use the language very differently. Having completed the research project Laura had the responsibility of presenting her findings to the client. Fortunately she had been able to develop her presentation skills during her course, but still found her first company presentation a little nerve-wracking.

In the early days of the placement Laura found it hard to adapt to the routine and deadlines of agency work after 2 years of study, but she knew that if ever she had a problem, another team member would always help her out. She comments that she had to quickly get used to the fact that she couldn’t put off tasks to the next day, as she might have done when working on university projects.

Laura firmly believes that her experience will give her a competitive edge when it comes to getting a job when she graduates. Trade magazine Advertising Age ranks Wunderman as the number 1 digital agency in the world and has 170 offices in 60 countries. She is looking forward to coming back to Huddersfield to complete her final year armed with the knowledge and experience that the placement with Wunderman has given her.
