FEGReG’s new intake of PhD students are enjoying a series of research methods training seminars, led by Julie Drake.

Zakiyah, a Lecturer at the Universiti Utara Malaysia, is researching the whistleblowing intentions of internal auditors in the UK and has “realised that there are things I didn't know or understand accurately. I am able to get some clarification from the discussion, particularly about research methods, which is a powerful aid to gaining a clearer understanding than if I read the notes and books alone – the seminars are a great morale booster.

Universiti_Utara_Malaysia_logo Dafi, also from Universiti Utara, Malaysia, began his studies in October this year (2011). Dafi is researching factors affecting the decision to use forensic accounting services in detecting and preventing fraud in local government. Sartini, from Indonesia, is researching corporate social responsibility disclosure by public companies in islamic countries

Finally, Hady – who is researching the impact of cultural differences on ethical reasoning of external auditors – joined the group for the seminar on research design, questions and ethics, during his visit to the UK from Egypt in November. The two week visit was a busy time for Hady, including meetings with his supervisory team, attending a research methods lecture on content analysis and a seminar on money laundering, hosted by the University, for local Chartered Accountants.
