The Facilities Team at the University is delighted to be working in partnership with the Foundation Learning courses at Kirklees College on a project on the Canal Bank.

From Monday 5 June a team of Learning Foundation students will be helping to clear part of the canal bank opposite Lockside to provide an area for students and staff which is clean, safe, green and attractive.

The Foundation Learning courses run by Kirklees College are designed to improve essential basic skills as well as work and life skills to give the students the best opportunities in life. The program is designed to help the students gain self-confidence and help them shine.

It is anticipated that there will be a group of around 10 students aged between 16-24 supported by Tutors and support workers who will work on the project for 4 weeks. The days they will work will be flexible but expect them to be working hard whatever the weather! The group will be mentored by Duncan Henderson, an experienced Horticulturalist with a wealth of experience in grounds maintenance.

The group of Students have visited the University to look at the work involved and are eager to commence and gain valuable work experience here at the University.

Please feel free to chat with the team whilst they are working on the Canal Bank to find out more about the project. Alternatively if you would like further information please contact Sally Hobson by email: s.hobson@hud.ac.uk or call 01484 471261.
