CRISS sociologist Professor Jeff Hearn [pictured above] was recently conferred with an honorary degree by the Faculty of Social Sciences at Lund University, Sweden. Professor Hearn has an international reputation for his research on masculinity. His recently published book, Men of the World: Genders, Globalizations, Transnational Times, explores how masculinity and globalisation interact to create gender hierarchies in a transnational world.

Marking the conferment of this prestigious award, Professor Hearn gave a public lecture at Lund University entitled, ‘Men of the World: Global, Transnational, Gexual’ in which he provided an overview of the growth of critical studies on men and masculinities, as a preface to the discussion of the question of how such studies interconnect with globalisation, and then in turn the transnational, and transnational processes of change. The lecture sought to relate these issues to the concepts of the material-discursive, trans(national)patriarchies, and the gexual.
