Turbocharger Research Institute Recruitment

We are pleased to be able to announce our new short course, “Introduction to Turbocharger Engineering”.

This three day course has been developed in response to feedback requesting a non-examined course covering the basics of turbocharger engineering.

This short course is designed to provide a technical education in the field of turbochargers and turbocharging for automotive professionals including OEMs, suppliers and other associated organisations. It will start from the fundamental requirements of turbocharger systems and cover a range of applications including automotive, commercial vehicle, rail and marine and will look at recent developments such as multi staging and waste heat recovery.

The course structure that we are considering at present will cover the following;

  • Reasons for turbocharging and supercharging
  • Basic mechanical and aerodynamic design features
  • Turbocharger stripdown and benchmarking
  • Design aspects and consideration of turbine, compressor and bearing systems
  • Failure modes and their identification
  • Wastegating, variable geometry and multistage turbocharging
  • Turbo installation
  • Recent developments and the influence of future engine technologies

It is particularly aimed at non-turbo specialists, including applications engineers, systems engineers and packaging engineers.  The course is intended to give an understanding of how a turbocharger should be installed and used, as well as the basic principles of design and operation.

Each delegate will receive a book of course notes and a Certificate of Continuing Education from the University of Huddersfield. This can be used as evidence of CPD for professional purposes, and even contribute towards a Higher Degree if the delegate wishes to gain further academic qualifications.

The course is scheduled to run from Tuesday 7th to Thursday 9th July 2015 inclusive, at the University. Cost will be £1000 per delegate, inclusive of course notes, lunches and refreshments.
