A good year for Business Management

As another academic year comes to an end, it’s great to be able to look back and appreciate just how much our students have achieved. As part of their Management Skills for Personal Development and Employability module, our year 2 Business Management students have completed a number of projects that have not only enhanced their professional aptitudes, but also significantly contributed to the local community.

Students have helped Yorkshire-based charities both through raising funds of over £6000 or campaigning for food donations, but also through acting as consultants to hear our the charities’ needs and goals and provide advice to help them succeed. The DART (Donated Art) exhibition has been of the year’s highlights, creating a great buzz in the Business School “Street” area and giving all proceeds from the artwork sold to those in need. Charities supported include the Forget-Me-Not Trust, the Mission Café and the Welcome Centre.

In addition to their charity work, students have also lent their expertise to a number of businesses. For example, one group facilitated the development of a new local restaurant by providing design, cost evaluation and competitor analysis, while another group completed a project for healthcare manufacturer PZ Cussons in regards to their product offering.

Principal Lecturer Ruth Brooks is part of the team that works tirelessly to make sure that our undergraduate Business Management students get the best out of the time they spend with us. Ruth commented on the success of this year’s projects: “I have received letters and emails from the different charities congratulating our students on their work and thanking them for the big difference their efforts have made. Their achievements have been amazing and we are extremely proud.”
